Browse our Collection of PVA 3D Printing Filament
Looking to experiment with soluble materials? Perhaps you are constructing a complex design, and you need the assistance of a support material that can be easily removed from the completed object afterwards.
Whatever your motivation is, PVA filament is an incredibly fun (albeit extremely moisture-sensitive, obviously!) material to print 3D objects with.
As a soft and biodegradable polymer that dissolves in water, Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) makes it drastically easier to 3D print complex or delicate structures, often with partially enclosed cavities.
Once the object has cooled and hardened, you can simply expose it to warm running water and watch the PVA support material wash away; leaving you with just the complex 3D printed design.
It’s also ideal for producing quick, crude prototypes to iron out the kinks in the design, before reprinting the object with more durable materials later.

A quick guide to 3D printing with PVA filament
Printing with PVA filament requires no special solvents, nor any additional hardware. However, its natural sensitivity to moisture means air-tight storage containers are needed, and your nozzle must be immediately cooled after extruding, to prevent clogging.
That being said, with a little vigilance you can enjoy a convenient and hassle-free experience 3D printing with PVA filament.
The hardware requirements for printing with this material are quite straightforward:
- Bed temperature of 45-60 degrees Celsius (heated bed is optional, and an enclosure isn’t required)
- PEI build surface with painter’s tape
- Extruder temperature of 185-200 degrees Celsius, with no special hotend required
- Part cooling fan is required
